A day after suspicious death of thousands of fish in Lasudia Mori pond, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) announced its plans to carry out a major repair work of sewerage system near ponds in city.
Civic body suspects the fish died because of contamination after release of drains’ water in the pond through unidentified leakages in secondary lines. So, it has decided to carry the repair work to prevent drain water from mixing into water bodies.
IMC commissioner Asheesh Singh said that IMC was already working on making rivers and nullahs of city sewage free. “We are going to develop sewage system, which will prevent drain water from getting mixed into ponds in the city. We are already working on a similar project covering two rivers and six nullahs. In the next phase of the project, we will cover all ponds in city,” he said
Detailing about the project, he said that leakages were reported in secondary sewage lines. “We have decided to replace all damaged secondary lines with new ones and connect them with primary sewage lines. A survey will be conducted to identify all damage lines,” he said.
Neher Bhandara, Usmakhedi, Pipliyahana, Lasudia Mori, Sirpur, Ahir Khedi and Bhourasala are some of the locations, where IMC is likely to replace sewage lines.
Locals and corporator of ward 35 had demanded for action over suspicious death of fish in Lasudia Mori pond. They also blamed delay on part of IMC in cleaning of the pond owing to which thousands of fish died
IMC’s water works department officials said that they were working on setting up sewage treatment plants in various locations. They will further help in releasing clean water back into water bodies
